Southern Austral Road
4 days/3 nights  ( GC402 )
Day 1: Balmaceda – Coyhaique (55 Km.)
Transfer from the Balmaceda’s airport to the regional capital, Coyhaique. Arrival to the hotel selected. Diner and accommodation.
Day 2: Coyhaique – Lago General Carrera (241 Km.)
Breakfast. Departure towards the south in order to go by the Austral road which the first 100Km are pavement. During the journey you will enjoy the sight of the landscape dominated by forests of lenga, coigüe and ñire (kind of Chilean trees), vegetation which cover the entry of the Castillo hill’s National Reserve. The journey goes on by the southern Austral road until Puerto Tranquilo in order to lunch there. Then, we will go deep into the Exploradores Valley which goes around the “Hielo Norte” camp. In this valley, we will see waterfalls and glaciers falling from the mountains. Going by the Bayo Lake we will begin a walk by a path situated inside a forest which is always green. While walking up, we will have a fantastic panoramic view of the Bayo Lake, to then going to the glacier, where we can admire the Explorer Glacier, 9km wide and 2, 5 km long situated at the bottom of the San Valentín Mont, the higher of the Patagonia.
Then, we will go on until the Guadal’s sector. Arrival at the selected hotel, diner and accommodation.
Day 3: General Carrera Lake (200Km round trip)
Breakfast. At 8:30 am, departure by the Austral road to visit the Tamango National Reserve, situated in the Km 341.
There, we will embark in a boat on the Cochrane River with its beautiful landscapes, during 40 minutes approximately.
After having discharged from the boat, we will come back by a trekking path (mid exigency), for all with a good health and a good physical condition. If we are lucky, we could see the huemul (Hippocamelus bisulcus).Then, we will have a rest and a lunch before going back by the same road to the General Carerra Lake. We will have a small break to admire the convergence of the Baker and Nef Rivers, and take advantage of its beauty. Return to the hotel, diner and accommodation.
Day 4: General Carrera Lake – Balmaceda
Breakfast. Departure at 8:30 by the Austral road to the north towards the Puerto Tranquilo’s locality situated near the General Carrera Lake. It’s the biggest Lake of Chile and the second of South America, with an area of 978, 12 km², and it is shared with Argentina. Its waters are turquoise and full of fishes. Navigation by the coast of the Lake until the marble’s caves of the Nature’s sanctuary, which is a very beautiful place where the swell of the lake has eroded and polished the limestone rock, creating attractive caves.
After that, we will go on until the Balmaceda’s airport.
