Departure from Coyhaique by the southern Austral road until the Castillo’s hill and Ibáñez Port. We will go by this road for the firsts 91km until the fork of both of the localities, where we will have a break to take photos of the Chiguay Lagoon and the Count’s rock (La Piedra del Conde).
At the 83km, we arrive at the Paso Portezuelo, 1.120 meters high, surrounded by uncovered hills, rocky penitents.
Few kilometers after, we arrive at the watchtower of the Río Ibáñez Valley. The descents begins there, by the named “Cuesta del Diablo”
At the right side, ends the “Cerro Castillo” Valley, high from 2.675m surrounded by small rocky peaks in which faces are snowy.
After the fork, we will go by the right road until the Villa Cerro Castillo, 8km away and situated in a rocky narrow pass, is located the village. Small break to take photos.
Then, we will go forward to visit old rock vestiges from the Tehuelches, hands prints in the rock with a view on the Río Ibáñez’s Valley. This let you imagine the life of the first’s Patagonia Aysén’s inhabitants.
Return by the same road until the mentioned fork towards Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez. In that place is situated the “La Casona de Mary Sandoval”, typical house of a village of the sector, which offers the commodities of a home, taking advantage of a Patagonia Aysén’s typical lunch.
Then, the path goes on with a landscape of small Rocky Mountains, where the vegetation does not grow. After 10km by the road, we will arrive at the Puerto Ingeniero Ibanez’s village. After the visit of the village, which is the first urban site in touch with the General Carrera Lake, we’ll go by the fork until Levicán and after 2km we arrive at “Salto Del Río Ibáñez”. It has a huge volume of flow and is one of the most beautiful of Chile. In this site, we could dazzle with its watchtower built to obtain this result.
